Put yourself in safe hands – our experienced criminal team are experts at defending those who are facing criminal charges and we can provide advice from the police station right through to a court hearing. We deal with all aspects of criminal representation in the Youth Court, Magistrates Court, Crown Court and the Court of Appeal.

Our criminal defence work includes cases involving: Homicide, sexual offences, fraud offences, theft and burglary, offences against the person, drug offences, Breach of Community Orders, serious motoring offences and Proceeds of Crime Act Offences and Confiscation.

We are ‘contracted with the Legal Aid Agency’ to undertake criminal defence work and can assist you with making an application for Legal Aid. Legal Aid is available for all aspects of criminal court representation, in most cases subject to financial eligibility and the details of your case meeting the interests of justice criteria. We can assess your eligibility for Legal Aid and advise you in relation to the different funding regimes. If you are not eligible for Legal Aid we will discuss with you our private fees which are always competitive.

What to expect in a Criminal Court?

Going to Court can prove to be very stressful, particularly if you have never experienced this before. The Court building itself can feel intimidating and people often feel like a fish out of water, and therefore already at a disadvantage before the case even begins. Here at James Murray Solicitors, we specialise in looking after you. By instructing us, you won’t feel alone, you will know where to stand and what to say, even before you walk into a court room.
