Repetitive Strain Injury

Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) is an injury of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems that may be caused by repetitive tasks, forceful exertions, vibrations, mechanical compression (pressing against hard surfaces) or sitting in awkward positions. Unfortunately, too many employers have not established proper procedures to protect their workforce and consequentially repetitive strain injuries follow.

The following complaints are typical in patients who might receive a diagnosis of RSI:

  • Pain in the arm, back, shoulders, wrist, hands or thumbs;
  • The pain is worse with activity;
  • Weakness, lack of endurance.

These symptoms may be attributable to your work if it involves:-

  • A high rate of repetition over a long period;
  • Strong force;
  • Bad posture due to position of work station.
